On the road – 18 September 2015

Someone once said to me that there is no such thing as bad weather in running, just soft people. This weekend the Dolphins proved their toughness. Despite the cold and wet conditions of Sunday morning, a large contingent of Dolphin runners took part in the SAPS Striders 10 and 21km race. The route was flat and fast and took runners out past Ushaka Marine World and then back along the beach front towards Blue Lagoon. Well done to everyone that went out there and really gave it their best effort and achieved his or her goal. Crossing the finish line always tastes sweeter when you have worked hard for it.

In the 21km distance Thulani Silayi was our first male Dolphin home in an awesome time of 1:20:43 and Pippa McGregor was our first lady Dolphin home in a great time of 1:40:43. Special congratulations to Janine Goes, Jenny Scott and Shannon Clark who placed first, second and third respectively in their age categories for 21km race. In the 10km event Karen Conway and Pasma Gumede placed third in their respective age categories. Well done to Tarryn and Sparta who completed their first 21km road race.

Regardless of tired legs, hearts were jubilant as the Dolphins gathered under the club tent to swap stories, enjoy a beer and celebrate a great day out on the road. Everyone agreed that the spirit and camaraderie in the Dolphins is riding high.

Speedster

The ninth annual Speedster will take place next Wednesday (September 23) at 5.45pm from behind Mozambik Restaurant. This is a 4km club fundraiser and a hugely popular event. This year our major sponsors are Mozambik, North Coast Courier and RE/MAX Dolphin Realters. Prize giving and dinner, a quarter chicken and chips at Mozambik Restaurant, will take place straight afterwards with lots prizes and fun. Entry fee is R80 and payment needs to be made and confirmed by this Wednesday.
