Nothing is as fun as a dirty train run!
Sunday was a magical mud-fest on the trails. Neither the overcast conditions or the dismal rugby the night before could deter the Dolphins from hitting the trails early on Sunday morning.
The 13km Rhino Run unites trail runners across South Africa to help raise funds for the protection of these endangered animals. Despite intensive conservation efforts, poaching of rhinos has dramatically increased, pushing the species closer to extinction.
According to the Save the Rhino foundation, South Africa has by far the largest population of rhinos in the world and is of key importance for rhino conservation. It was therefore fantastic to see that despite the cold and wet conditions, runners supported this worthy run. Seeing a majestic rhino grazing the plains of African or running through breathtakingly beautiful trails with friends are moments that should be treasured and cannot be taken for granted.
The ninth annual Speedster run will take place this Wednesday. Please be at the old thatch club house at 5pm for registration, the race will start at 5.30pm. Prize giving will take place straight afterwards at Mozambik restaurant with lots prizes and fun. There will still be the usual time trial from Salt Rock Country Club starting at 5.45pm.
