On the road – 13 November 2015
Running downhill towards the end of the year!
I can hardly believe that we are already in November and there is less than eight weeks until the end of 2015. I hope that you have achieved your running or walking goals that you set out to do this year.
If not, there is always next year, plan ahead, get the right training programme or advice and make 2016 a year of goal conquering. As we close the year off our Dolphins continue to run fantastic times and here are some highlights from the past few weeks.
Congratulations to the Dolphins that braved the heat and ran the Verulam Check-out half marathon – Pippa McGregor 1:41, Debbie Holland 1:59, Belinda Bolte 2:13 and Bev Browne 2:17. Well done also to Veronica Mtetwa for completing the tough Soweto marathon in 4:52:27. Special congratulations to Harry Botha who completed the iconic Athens marathon. This was Harry’s fifteenth marathon and a really special run as the route takes participants pass the markers that commemorate the start position of the first ever Olympic marathon.
If Comrades is on your bucket list for next year please make sure that you get your entry in as there is less than a month remaining before entries close on November 30, or if the entry cap of 20 000 entries are received. The 91st Comrades is a down run and will take place on Sunday, May 29, 2016.
Just a reminder about some of the events that we have coming up:
The Dolphin Coast Strider’s annual general meeting will take place on Wednesday, December 2 at the Salt Rock Country Club at 6.30pm after time trial. All members are encouraged to attend.
The Christmas Hat Run will take place on December 16 – this a fun walk/run for the community and all monies raised will be donated to the North Coast Courier Orphan Fund.
The Dolphin’s new race is called The Big Hill Challenge (10 and 21km routes) and will be taking place on Sunday, December 20. This is going to be a race that we hope everyone, including the holidaymakers, will enjoy.
“Bowls & Braai” event for all members is on December 6.
More details on all events will be sent out to members or you can monitor our website and social media platforms. Our new website has been launched so if you need any information about the club, upcoming events, training programmes or contact details please go to the website.
