The Salt Rock community has reacted with sadness at the recent untimely passing of one of its favourite sons, Geoffrey Charles Southwood (48) on November 19.
He was the much loved father of Murray and Chad, son of Tony and Netta (nee Hulett), brother to Sharon, Noeleen and Larry, brother-in-law to Joey and Shane, and a special friend to so many.
Activities came to a standstill on Tuesday, November 27, when a massive memorial service was held to give thanks for, and celebrate Geoff’s life.
Then, on Saturday, a moving tribute took place at sea over Tiffany’s Reef as the family, together with boating and surfing locals gathered to say their final farewells.
Fondly referred to as the “Mayor of Brettenwood”, the businessman and property developer’s passing has clearly had a profound and widespread effect on the community.
I can think of no other man considered by so many to be their best friend. This alone, is testament to an incredible human being.
Geoff’s zest for life and fanaticism for the need to enjoy it, made him uniquely popular. Geoff squeezed more into 48 years than most could achieve in a lifetime, sharing so much with so many. That is why there has been such an outpouring of grief and sense of loss.
He was indeed an extraordinary man, a legend, who will live in us forever. Geoff, you will be sadly missed but never forgotten. Until we meet again ,rest in peace, Chief.
