At the beginning of this New Year, as you and I look to the future, with all its challenges as well as suffering and corruption; we can be inspired by the words of Dewitt Jones the renowned National Geographic photographer and motivational speaker, who said: “By celebrating what’s right with the world, we find the energy to fix what’s wrong.”
In a world where many people seem to get an adrenaline “fix” from thinking, reading and talking about all that’s wrong, we can discover that by focusing on and choosing to celebrate what’s right and beautiful in our world, we can be empowered to do something about what’s wrong.
The most dynamic essential for good in our world, is God. As we begin to realise how utterly good He is, we find ourselves infused with hope and inspiration to right what’s wrong.
Jesus came into the world at a time when there was much injustice, corruption and dreadful human suffering. His mission included showing the world the potential for good. He did this by demonstrating how good God is.
· He shows us the uncompromising integrity and character of His Father, our God.
· He demonstrates His compassion for the suffering.
· His crucifixion illustrates the undeniable goodness of God. He did this to set in motion a force in the earth that has power to right the wrongs, alleviate the suffering caused by pride and hatred, and make a way for mankind to come into a vibrant relationship with the Living God.
As you and I embark on our uncharted voyage into the future of this 2016th Year of our Lord, let us resolve to focus on what’s right and on the beauty in our world, and most importantly, put our hands into the Hand of God.
In the words of the famous poem by Minnie Louise Haskins, quoted and made popular by King George VI in his momentous Christmas broadcast on the BBC in December 1939, at the commencement of the Second World War:
“And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year:
‘Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.’
And he replied: ‘Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God.That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.'”
