It may come as a surprise, to some, that Christianity is not all about rules and guilt, or working to obtain favour with God.
The primary focus of the Gospel is that we can have a vibrant, real relationship with our Maker, because he has worked to give us his free, unmerited favour that was provided through Jesus’ suffering and sacrifice for us.
As in any other interpersonal meaningful relationship, two way quality communication is essential, so it is with our relationship with God.
God is the one who has started this conversation. God is no ordinary monarch, he is the Supreme King of the Universe and has invited you to his Palace banquet hall, to dine at his table for the rest of your life. When Jesus invited the disciples to “come follow me”, this was an invitation to spend the rest of their lives with him. They followed his invitation and as a result, they had an enormous impact in the history of the world. Now, he gives you the same invitation to a daily relationship with him.
He certainly invites us to speak to him, but he also speaks to us and he is not silent.
*He speaks through Creation:
“For ever since the creation of the world His invisible nature and attributes, that is, His eternal power and divinity, have been made intelligible and clearly discernible in and through the things that have been made (His handiworks).” (Romans 1:20a (AMP))
*He has spoken most eloquently and clearly through Jesus. “in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son …” (Hebrews 1:2 (ESV))
*God also speaks to us through the Bible. He tells us what he is like and how he desires relationship with you and me. Those who God used as his scribes to pen the words of Scripture were all people who had a conversational relationship with God.
God has created you for relationship with him. People of every nation find prayer helpful. This instinct was put there by your Maker. It is as though there is an empty space in your heart that only God can satisfy. I have found that in this conversational relationship with God, he fills up this emptiness, and fills my spiritual tank like nothing else can do.
