“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us” – AW Tozer.
Of course God knows all about this, so he has provided us with some very clear evidence to show us who He is and what He is like.
He knows how this knowledge will affect our world view and how this, in turn, will affect the trajectory of our lives forever.
So He gives us enormous amounts of evidence in order that our view of reality might be in line with how things really are.
God’s magnificent creation of the universe informs us of His “power and Godhead”. (See Romans 1:20).
He also has communicated with us through Scripture.
Historians agree that at least five of the authors of New Testament books wrote independently of each other, without any knowledge of what each other had to say.
With this many witnesses, historians are confident of the veracity of Biblical record. Furthermore, non-Biblical writers such as Josephus, Pliny and Tacitus corroborate much of the Biblical accounts.
It is important for us, as believers, to be reassured that the Biblical record is accurate and historically verifiable, especially in the light of what Richard Dawkins says: “Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code is modern fiction and the New Testament is ancient fiction.”
Professor John Dixon said: “This view, however, is not one that would be endorsed by any of Dawkins’ colleagues in the classics department at Oxford University.”
Respected classical historians tell us that there is much more reliable evidence for the life, death and resurrection of Jesus than for the lives of Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar combined.
God culminates His revelation in the incarnation of His Son Jesus Christ and shows us in exquisite personal detail what God is like.
I agree with the suggestion to test the validity of any world view by asking: “Does this world view elevate the status of humanity or not?”
The atheist Peter Singer said: “A child is of less value than a pig, a dog or a chimpanzee.” This view totally depreciates human dignity and contradicts the United Nations Charter for Human Rights.
God’s view of human kind is that man is made in His own image.
See Genesis 1:26-27. Furthermore God became a man, in the person of Jesus Christ.
This demonstrates God’s amazingly high view of humanity.
