Science does not contradict the Bible. Many hundreds of years before scientists made their discoveries the Bible recorded many scientific facts. Consider the following, comparatively recent, scientific discoveries that were mentioned centuries before, in the following scriptures:

· “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1 [Written in approximately 1400 BC.]

This implies that the universe had a beginning in time. This sounds very much like the Big Bang theory that was first proposed in 1927 by a Belgian Roman Catholic priest who had studied the work of Albert Einstein.

Arno Penzias, physicist, radio astronomer and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate said: “The best data we have concerning the Big Bang are exactly what I would have predicted, had I nothing to go on but Five Books of Moses, the Psalms and the Bible as a whole.”

• He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth … “Isaiah 40:22 (Isaiah in a date before 700 BC.)

The earth is round, not flat. Discovered by Eratosthenes, in 330 BC

• “He … hangs the earth on nothing.” Job 26:7 (Job before 2 000 BC).

The earth suspended in space. Discovered by Copernicus in 1475.

• “The wind blows south, and then turns north. Around and around it goes, blowing in circles.” Ecclesiastes 1:6

The Jet Stream, the natural phenomenon that is used to plot the courses for international air travel and predict weather. This was not discovered until 1920 by the Japanese meteorologist Wasaburo Ooishi.

• “…. He draws up water from the oceans and pours it down as rain on the land. The Lord is his name!” Amos 9:6 (+- 750 BC)

The Hydrological Cycle. First proposed by Leonardo Da Vinci in the late 1400s.

In fact, science is extremely powerful. For instance, it has given us the ability to extract thousands of useful metals and substances from the minerals God placed in the earth. However, science is incapable of explaining everything. It is not able to give us satisfying answers to the questions of a child, such as: “Why am I here.” or “What is the meaning of life?” Without God, science is at a loss to explain art, poetry, the human mind, language, love, compassion or culture. In the Bible the scientist and the sincere seeker after truth can find helpful logical explanations for these most precious and meaningful things.
