It is remarkable to me how many atheists have had the intellectual honesty to be willing to follow where the evidence led, as it led them to the discovery that there really is a God; refusing to allow their rational minds to be fettered by any a priori presupposition, or social prejudice that insisted that there can be no such thing as a miracle.

This belief in the laws of nature is the reason behind many highly intelligent people’s rejection of God.

Whereas the former atheist CS Lewis eventually said: “In 1929 I gave in, and admitted that God was God, and knelt and prayed: perhaps, that night, the most dejected and reluctant convert in all England.”

Anthony Flew, author of many books spelling out his opposition to any belief in God, towards the end of his life wrote the book: “There Is A God: How the World’s Most Notorious Atheist Changed His Mind.”

The unbelieving Dr Francis Collins turned to Christ while attending to many terminally ill people as they approached death; because they did so with such fortitude and peace through faith in Jesus Christ. A dying lady asked him: “Doctor, what do you believe?” This simple question provoked him to take another look at Christianity. After examining the evidence, he came to the conclusion that “atheism is the least rational of the options.”

AN Wilson, previously a sceptic and author; outspokenly hostile to Christianity, he too, changed his mind. He said that he had observed “the way Christian faith transforms individual lives.” And: “My belief has come about in large measure because of the lives and examples of friends and relations” and “Truth comes to us mediated by human love.”

Jesus said: “Your strong love for each other will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” John 13:35 (The Living Bible)

“An ounce of love is worth more than a ton of argument”. Love is a powerful apologetic.

Even the popular unbelieving writer, Matthew Parris conceded: “Now a confirmed atheist, I’ve become convinced of the enormous contribution that Christian evangelism makes in Africa: sharply distinct from the work of secular NGOs, government projects and international aid efforts.

These alone will not do. Education and training alone will not do. In Africa Christianity changes people’s hearts. It brings a spiritual transformation. The rebirth is real. The change is good.” Matthew Parris – Times – London 27/12/2008
