#Opinion: Should there be stricter speeding enforcement on residential roads?

Residents share their thoughts and gripes about some of the local roads that are a magnet for speedsters.

We asked our readers whether there should be stricter regulation of noise and speeding in residential suburbs and how these issues are affecting their daily lives.

Here’s what they had to say:

Melanie Le Clus – Ocean Drive has become a racetrack and loud motorbikes and vehicles with noisy exhausts make huge amounts of noise effecting all the complexes facing onto Ocean Drive. And then there are the noisy taxis who are constantly hooting.

Rose Taljaard – Definitely. Compensation is used as a race track in the evenings. No one stops at a stop street.

Shana Kairo -Yes please. We must respect each other. Unfortunately, not everyone on this planet will consider others.

Mandy Murphy – The existing bylaws are clear, comprehensive and strict enough. The real issue here is the lack of commitment and political will from KDM authorities to enforce them effectively.

Sandy Coughlan – Ocean Drive is a nightmare, especially over weekends when overdone revving and gear changing takes place from one hump to the next.

Colin Basil Meiring – Burman Drive, Morningside, is race track for inconsiderate drivers with loud exhausts pipes!

Jan De Klerk – Definitely! Simbithi Drive is little drag strip for little guys who want to see how fast they can go between speed bumps!

Natasha Engelbrecht – Yes there should be. People do what ever they want and have no respect for others around them.
