#Letter: Fleet management is crucial for service delivery

KwaDukuza DA PR councillor Nerish Singh writes:

KwaDukuza municipality’s fleet management is failing residents.

On April 1, during the IAT Portfolio Committee meeting, I put forward a resolution calling for urgent action to ensure that all fleet vehicles are operational to support service delivery. At that time, only two of the six cherry pickers were functional across all 30 wards.

Senior management committed that by April 8, at least four cherry pickers would be operational. This commitment was critical, especially as the committee had just approved an accelerated service delivery plan that relies heavily on fully functional fleet capacity.

However, as of today, April 13, the situation has worsened. I am now informed only one cherry picker is available to service all 30 wards.

This is unacceptable. Residents cannot continue to suffer due to poor planning, broken promises and a lack of accountability. Service delivery cannot improve when the very tools needed to do the work are not available.

It is time for officials to step out from behind their desks and take responsibility for the roles they are paid to perform.
