Future stars tee off

Umhlali Country Club’s Junior Golf academy hosted its annual junior championship.

Umhlali Country Club’s Junior Golf academy hosted its annual junior championship on Thursday, January 9, after the original December date was rained out.
Competitions are held every quarter during the school holidays for the juniors who have displayed good ball striking skills, but also manners, respect for others and a basic knowledge of golfing rules. These competitions then culminate in the year-end championship event where the young players can really show off the skills they have acquired throughout the year.
The organisers thanked the members and parents who played or walked with the juniors, kept the scores and made sure that proper golf etiquette was followed. Out and About Caterers made sure that everybody had enough energy to take on the golf course with their sponsorship of hot dogs and cooldrinks.
Results:
Junior club champion, Brian Khumalo (72 gross); Runner up, Tristan Egly (75 gross); Third, Thabiso Magwaza (81 gross).
Overall points winner, Patrick Bhenxa 42 pts; Runner up, Keegan Trehaeven 39 pts.
Under 12 winner, Senayah Moodliar 36 pts; Runner up, Lindo Mbongazi 34pts.        Six hole competition winner, Charlotte Phipps 36 gross; Runner up, Finn Coningham 40 gross; Third, Sage Slater and Takara C. Bowman 42 gross.
