Nuts for charity

Mountain bikers donate money to Cancer Support Network.

A group of local mountain bike enthusiasts, known as The Nutters, handed over a cheque of R4 160 to the The Ballito Cancer Support Network (BCSN) at an event at Sugar Rush Adventure Centre on Saturday, November 1.

The Nutters chairman, Scott Pearmain, said, ‘during the month of October, we decided to ring fence all of the club fun fines issued to members to support people affected by cancer’.

Jaime Ernst of BCSN brought the plight of two Ballito children who have lost their mother to cancer and also lost their grandmother in the space of three weeks to the attention of the Nutters.

It was then that their committee decided to donate the funds raised during the charity drive to the BCSN, to support the two children and their grandfather, who now cares for them.

“After Saturday’s presentation, one of the Nutters, Richard McLennan, suggested a ‘Toy Ride’ before Christmas. The Nutters will host a mountain bike ride, but the entry fee would be a toy, clothing, domestic requirements or school stationery that will be given to the children” said Pearman.

Information about The Nutters can be found on their Facebook page ‘The Nutters’ or you can email Scott at scott@nkwazifreedomwear.com.
