Local athlete excels in Judo

Attains highest grade in the sport.

Lavern Naidoo from Shihan Judo Academy recently achieved a first dan in Shodan in judo. Dan grades are the highest grades attainable within the sport of judo.

Lavern started attending judo courses in 2006 just to keep himself fit, but it quickly turned into a passion that not only engaged his body, but also his mind. The experience of competing in events like the 2012 South African Open Championships in Bloemfontein cemented Naidoo’s love for the sport.

“Judo has help me build flexibility, mental alertness, physical stamina and the agility I need to physically defend myself. I have mastered techniques in chokes, strangles, throws and arm locks,” said Naidoo.
