Surfers perform in contestable waves in Ballito

North Coast Boardriders blessed with good conditions.

The North Coast Boardriders held their second surf contest at Surfers (Willard beach) in Ballito on Saturday, November 1.

The competition was blessed with light winds and contestable waves, which set the scene for some high performance surfing throughout the day.

The juniors made the most of the conditions, exhibiting their talent and skill to card exceptionally high scores. The finals were made up of KZN’s finest junior surfers, all members of the current KZN junior team that won the Presidents Cup last month. Shane Sykes sealed the deal with only seconds left on the clock in the final, edging out his long time rival Richard Kidd. Bevan Willis took the last podium position, while Calvin Goor secured fourth place. Munro Horton, who competed in his first ever surf contest, was awarded the Junior surfer of the event award.

The men’s open final was a particularly close affair with the narrowest of margins separating the top four. In the end it was Jaco Kapp who took the victory, ahead of Kyle Yoko in second, with Travis Joffe and Allan Johns in third and fourth respectively.

Winners were treated to prizes sponsored by Billabong, Dakine and Coastal Tool Hire. All entry fees raised were donated to the local SPCA.

The final North Coast Boardriders event of the year is scheduled for the end of November.
