World first for Ballito’s rising MMA star

Ballito MMA star gets Amateur Fighter award.

Ballito’s own Amanda Lino was announced the WMMA Press Amateur Fighter of the year on Monday January 12.

Even more impressive than Lino’s 6-0 2014 winning streak is the fact that she made history by becoming the first person outside of the United States to win this award.

“I didn’t even know I had been nominated,” said Lino.

Unlike most awards, the WMMA Press Amateur of the Year Award is not voted for by fans but voted by the WMMA Press committee, based on performance during the year.

“Amanda is right up there with the top UFC girls but she remains humble,” said coach Guy Sheenan.
