Bodyboarding trials to heat up surf
Bodyboarding trials will be taking place on the North Coast for the next three months.
The local bodyboarding season kicks off in earnest this Sunday as riders from Ballito to St Lucia descend on Alkantstrand in Richards Bay for the first of five official Northern KZN trials.
The event will see action in juniors, boys, girls, ladies, masters, grandmasters and Dropknee divisions.
The remaining trials will be held at Ballito and Richards Bay over the next three months, with the Ballito events scheduled for March 8 and May 17.
Dolphin Coast competitors will be pressing hard to secure their places in the team with Stefan Coetzee, Jonathan Bernon and up-and-comer Damon Vanhemert just a few names to look out for.
To add to the excitement, Richards Bay will be hosting the 2015 South African Bodyboarding Championships which will run from October 4 to 9.
This will not only mean less travel expenses for the Northern KZN team, but also the significant advantage of having local knowledge of the conditions.
Contestants need to pay an affiliation fee of R100 and a entry fee of R50 per trial.
Entrants who have paid all fees by February 22 will receive a free T-shirt.
There will also be a free bodyboarding clinic arranged for the first trial.
