Golden girls of karate
North Coast karate athletes excel at Provincial Championships.
Two Protea athletes from North Coast Karate Academy have once again excelled at the KZN Provincial Championships recently held in Tongaat.
Tyla Vilela took the gold medal for the individual kumite division in a convincing win of 8 – 0, 9 – 0 and 10 -0 and bronze for the individual kata division.
Priya Pillay took gold in the senior individual kumite division.
“This is the result of intense training and dedication where these athletes train six days a week in preparation. I am very proud of their tremendous achievements and thank Sensei Brando Pillay and Hanchi Sonny Pillay for their constant guidance and dedication to the athletes and the sport,” said Sensei Carlos Vilela.
Next stop for Vilela and Pillay are the Nationals, taking place in Johannesburg on March 6 and 7.
