Dynamite in small, pink packages

Little Ballito nippers give their all at provincial champs.

Ballito’s nippers made waves at the KZN Nipper Surf Lifesaving championships on February 28 and March 1 in Durban.

Brigitte von Buddenbrock, James and Mary Kewley and Luca de Marigny did well enough to qualify for the SA championships to be held in Cape Town from April 9 to 11.

Von Buddenbrock competed in the U9 girls section and took gold in the long run and seventh in each of the beach sprint and body boarding, sixth in the surf swim and ninth in flags.

James Kewley also stood out in the boys U10 category, taking silver in each of the surf relay and surf swim events.

Da Marigny won the boys U11 beach sprints and U11 and U12 mixed relay events, came third in flags, ninth in the long run, and 11th in the body boarding finals.

Tristan Turner did his team proud in the U12 section getting silver in the taplin relay, fourth in mally, seventh in body boarding, made the flags final and came ninth in the long run.

Takara Bowman got through to the U9 girls body boarding finals and finished 11th, came 12th in the long run and made the semi-finals in the beach sprint.

Aaron Turner came ninth in the U9 boys long run and Ashner Grove made it through to the finals of the U11 boys sprints where he came fourth, and came sixth in the flags and fifth in the long run.
