Karate success for Kwamama students at Kanazawa Cup

Karate kids walk away with medals and big smiles.

It was a proud day for Kwamama Care Centre as three of their children won medals for kumite at the SKISA Kanazawa Cup in Tongaat on Saturday.

Siyanda Magwaza won gold, while Mbalenhle Vinjwa and Emenlisa Mosia took home bronze medals in an excellent display of stamina and determination.

They have been training with the North Coast Karate Academy, sensei Carlos Vilela for only a short time.

“Their raw talent and passion for the sport is second to none,” said Vilela.

The medalists were not short of support as Sara Vanderstappen from Kwamama made sure all their karate classmates were there in support.

Local Protea athlete Tyla Vilela also won a gold medal for kumite at the event with her brother, Tiago Vilela, bagging silver.

Classes are held at the North Coast Karate Academy on Tuesdays and Thurdays at 5pm.
