A festival of fun and games with the Ballito Dolphins
Rugby club will host a junior day this weekend.
Ballito Dolphins Junior Rugby Club will be hosting a rugby tournament for several junior rugby clubs within KwaZulu-Natal this weekend and are expecting as many as 2000 visitors.
This will be the Dolphins’ first event showcasing their junior players and highlighting what the North Coast has to offer in the form of rising talent in the sport.
The tournament will be held from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, June 14 at Crawford North Coast College, with free entry for all those interested in being part of the day.
The Ballito Rugby Junior Club says it is excited to be part of this new sports development initiative, which it hopes will continue to grow the game of rugby in Ballito after hosting an open day on February 20 at Salt Rock Country Club where they invited young players from several schools within the Ilembe region.
The club received a positive response and with a current total membership of more than 70, the Dolphins want to encourage more rugby enthusiasts to be part of the junior set-up, whose skills in the game and love for the sport are continuing to grow.
They have already had the opportunity to play matches throughout May and June this year and have shown great promise on the field.
Practice is held on a Friday evening from 5pm until 6pm with the aid of IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst on-board, which also allows the adults to engage in a social gathering of sorts, with a bring and braai often planned and the club says that all are welcome.
The club has professionally qualified BokSmart coaches for each junior team starting from U6 who are dedicated to coaching the young players to perform at their utmost potential and to be granted the opportunity of being awarded Natal Duikers colours from the U12 age-group and older.
“We hope that you will be part of our ‘Touch, Set and Engage’ event. Let us make it an enjoyable field-day for our juniors, not forgetting our sponsors and supporters,” said club vice-chairman Mark Svenningsen.
