Golden week for Brett
Endurance motocross racer wins gold at Six Days Enduro Champs.
Local enduro ace, Brett Swanepoel, has notched up yet another feather in his cap with a gold medal in the international Six Days Enduro Championship which took place in Kosice, Slovakia from September 7-12.
Brett was part of the SA world team who participated in the event, which is also informally known as the “Moto Olympics”.
The race is a unique in that it is hosted in a different country each year and it has grown from humble beginnings 102 years ago, to attracting over 450 riders representing 35 countries in the latest edition.
At the end of a long, hard and physically demanding week with an average of seven hours in the seat each day, Brett finished the highest placed SA rider.
He also achieved a gold medal which is only awarded to the riders who finish within 10% of the class leader’s time.
All six riders from team SA completed the event, which in itself is an outstanding performance. The world team event was unofficially won by France, pending an outcome of protests lodged with FIM.
