SA men’s hockey team annihilate USA in Ballito final

SA captain Keenan Horne praised Ballito residents for supporting them.

The South African hockey men’s national team demolished the United States team in their four summer series matches – winning all four games.

The final match was played this morning and South Africa won by 5 – 1 at Ashton College in Ballito.

Although USA started the game on a high note, attacking non-stop, the South African champion’s defence was up to the task.

During the first half, SA got a penalty stroke which was scored by Jethro Eustice.

Owen Mvimbi scored the third goal and Dayaan Cassiem scored the fourth goal.

The USA came in strong, putting pressure on the SA team and at 52 minutes in, Christian Deangelis scored the consolation goal for the Americans.

SA dominated and towards the dying minutes of the game, Taine Paton put the final nail in the coffin for the United States.

SA captain Keenan Horne praised Ballito residents for supporting them during their matches and said he was proud of his team’s performance.

“The people of Ballito really took good care of us, we felt special every day and thank you for the undying support we have been getting throughout the series.

“We are now looking forward to our next series against Germany in Johannesburg,” said Horne.

The USA came in strong, putting pressure on the SA team.
