Cameron fighting for his town
The 18-year-old Ballito mixed martial arts fighter said he started training for the championships two months ago and he is feeling confident that he will return victorious.
South African junior champion Cameron Coulson is gearing up for the SA national amateur MMA championships at the beginning of next month.
The 18-year-old Ballito mixed martial arts fighter said he started training for the championships two months ago and he is feeling confident that he will return victorious.
“I will be competing in the junior division of the championship and winning will give me a greater chance to be part of the All African and World Championships. So far I am the only fighter from Ballito who will be competing, so I hope to win so that I make my town proud,” said Coulson.
KZN MMA chairman Justin Ferrier said there will be about 60 to 80 fighters coming from all corners of the country.
The event will take place at the CMH Suzuki in Umhlanga from March 5-8.

“We encourage everyone to come and watch the show, entry will be free. The presence of a strong crowd will mean a lot to the fighters and it will help to boost their confidence,” said Ferrier.
Coulson earned his provincial colours after four months of training at the KO Fighting Fitness Gym in Ballito and went all the way to win the SA Championship in Johannesburg last April.
Coulson said mixed martial arts was the first sport to capture his heart.
“I tried playing other sports and never enjoyed them. Mixed martial arts gave me a new feeling and I knew I was doing something good for myself. The sport is teaching me discipline and I am very confident and determined that I will do well,” he said.
