Ballito Pro in the balance over coronavirus fears

Event organiser Collette Bundy said the decision on the holding of the Ballito Pro Presented by O'Neill 2020, scheduled for June/July, would be taken towards the end of the month.

This year’s Ballito Pro surf contest, the Dolphin Coast’s biggest tourist drawcard outside of the Christmas holidays, may be in the balance as the Covid-19 outbreak progresses.

Event organiser Collette Bundy said the decision on the holding of the Ballito Pro Presented by O’Neill 2020, scheduled for June/July, would be taken towards the end of the month.

“In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, the global travel restrictions and the recent official announcements from the President of South Africa, as well as the CEO of World Surf League (WSL), SASCOC and Surfing South Africa, with respect to the holding and/or prohibition of events for the time being, we would like to advise that we are currently in consultation with the various authorities and organisations and are monitoring the situation closely.”

Bundy said they would review the situation at the end of March to determine the way forward.

“We are all affected and are facing very challenging times. It is imperative that we prioritise the well-being and safety of all,” she said.
