Calvin Macmillan rules at 2021 Ballito Pro Skate Jam

Macmillan (33) has been a competitive skater for years and said the hype from the crowds pushed the skaters to their limits.

Top-notch skating was displayed at the 2021 Ballito Pro Skate Jam as some of the country’s best skaters took to the Ballito Bowl on Saturday.

Durban’s Calvin Macmillan claimed the title and R7 500 cash prize.

Event organiser and judge, Alan Marola, said it was a great platform for young skaters.

Eight-year-old Ella van der Made showcases her skating skills.

“There is some amazing talent in South Africa. The Skate Jam hosted a high standard of competitors and it was a fantastic success. Congratulations to all the competitors for some spectacular performances and I would like to acknowledge our sponsors Volcom, Fallen Footwear US, Re/Max Dolphin Realtors, Oakley and Monster, as well as our hosts KwaDukuza municipality for their invaluable support,” said Marola.

“It is always great to skate at a well-supported event and that is exactly what we got from the Ballito community. It always makes a huge difference when there’s hype from the crowd to push the skaters to their limits during contests.

“I have grown up with most of the guys and we are all friends who support one another. We are all focused and would like to win, but we are equally as stoked to see our “homie” next to us take it,” said Macmillan.

“This bowl is a great facility for kids to learn and hopefully we can add to it and build more each year.”

Ballito’s Jessica Louw won the women’s division ahead of Ballito’s Caetlyn King and Ella van der Merwe.

In the under 16 division, Ezra Vosloo finished first, second was Ballito’s Cooper Smith and Levi Vosloo came in third.
