Isaacs upsets Bishop to claim Salt Rock squash title

Defending champion Bishop goes down 3-0 in final.

More than 30 players shot for gold at last week’s Salt Rock Country Club squash championships.

Split between two divisions, the players faced off over a thrilling five weeks of action that drew some top-quality squash from an experienced field.

The players enjoyed enthusiastic support from a packed crowd on finals day at the club last Friday.

First up was the B Division final, which saw rising star Werner Oberholster take down veteran Richard Boothe in straight sets.

In the A division ‘plate final’, the experienced Frank Bradford again proved his competitive credentials by beating Terry Shayne, also in a straight-set victory.

Terry Shayne and Frank Bradford finished 4th and 3rd in the men’s A division respectively.

The final match of the evening saw defending champion Mark Bishop take on the in-form Scott Isaacs for the A division overall trophy. Both men gave their all, but Isaacs proved too strong on the night, claiming a 3-0 upset victory.

Isaacs thanked tournament organisers Chris Richardson and Bishop for their efforts in making the competition possible, who in turn thanked sponsors for their help.

The players now turn full focus to the ongoing Dolphin Coast Squash tournament which includes all local clubs.
