Emergency service personnel from all walks of life gave the boys of Boys and Girls Town some insight into their jobs and possible career paths in the future.

The outing last Friday was organised by ConinghamLee consultants who are based in Ballito. ConinghamLee staff made wors rolls as they and emergency service members mingled with the boys.

Paul Herbst from IPSS Medical Rescue spoke about becoming a paramedic and what the job entails.

Umhlali SAPS dog unit members spoke about joining the police force and later gave a demonstration of the police dogs tackling abilities.

Members of the Tongaat Fire and Rescue team chatted about the physical demands of the job while members of Ballito Fire and Rescue answered questions and discussed fire safety.

“We would like to thank Pick’n Pay Ballito and Everfresh Ballito for their sponsorship for food and cool drinks for the occasion,” said ConinghamLee’s Linda Herbst.

“Friday afternoon was especially chilly and it was obvious that 17 boys at Boys and Girls Town desperately need warm clothing,” she added.

“I would like to appeal to moms of teenage boys to please donate jerseys, tracksuits, socks and other clothing. The items can be dropped at our offices at Silverstone way (Curves Building) on Douglas Crowe Drive,” she said.

The donations will be taken to Boys and Girls Town. Contact Linda on 032 946 0854.
