Egg and spoon races, apple bobbing, obstacle courses and ‘impala dropping’ spitting contests were but a few of the fun challenges that contestants of the Ballito Lions Amazing Race took part in on Sunday.
Almost 200 people in 44 teams competed in a race around Ballito solving clues and completing challenges in a bid to be named champions.
The day ended with a social and prize giving at the Lions Hall in Townsend Park where a great time was had by all.
Lions spokesperson Gavin Higgins said they were thrilled with the outcome.
“Around R30 000 was raised which will assist the Lions in carrying out their work in helping the needy in the local community. Part of the race required contestants to buy a bag of rice and deliver it to Kwa-Mama, they received 77kgs!” said Higgins.
First place went to team It’s all about the Beach, with The Three Blind Mice close at their heels in second and Team Hammerhead in third.
Best Dressed went to Dustin Scott from Team Blap and the Best Dressed team were the Super Troopers.
Best Dressed Vehicle was won by What’s Sarong with Us, most commitment went to The Three Blind Mice and Best Spirited went to the enthusiastic Team Blap.
“We would like to thank our sponsors as well as everyone who supported the event. Dave Rondi for the music, and Sugardance Dance Studios for the show. The North Coast Courier and IloveBallito.com for their help in marketing the event. We cannot wait to go bigger and better next year!” said Higgins.
