Beauty contest raises money for charity
Zimbali Rotary Club donates R120 000.
The Zimbali Rotary Club last week spread lashings of joy among several North Coast charities and schools.
The R120 000 raised by the Miss Ballito 2014 contest was distributed by the service club last week to two schools, a teacher empowerment programme and two charitable organisations which help orphans and destitute children.
Rotary president Julie Cloete praised the Miss Ballito organisaing committee, run by Rotarians Heidie Smith, Brenda Cartledge and Sonja Drobczyk for the smooth running of the 2014 contest, which saw 12 young ladies spending three months involving themselves in community and charity work in the run-up to the finals last month.
The recipients of the proceeds all praised the club for its dedication to improving the Dolphin Coast community, saying that the money would be put to good use improving learning conditions at two schools selected for awards – RA Padayachee School, Shakashead, and Isenembe Secondary, Upper Tongaat – and to helping children supported by Summerhill House and the North Coast Courier Orphan Fund.
