Five summer fashion trends

What you need to wear this summer.

Every season brings with it an exciting new range of colours and great new looks to try.

We spoke to professional image and fashion consultant Lynne McMaster for her tips to being on the cutting edge of fashion this summer.

1. Crop tops

“The way to wear this look is to ensure you are wearing high waisted skirts or pants, the belly button should be covered. Lots of crop tops are combined with wearing the matchy match trend (same print top and bottom). Any shape or style skirt is a key item to own this season from short, to midi to maxi,” said McMaster

2. Sheer

“Lots of sheer fabrics are found in tops and blouses. If wearing a blouse or shirt note that the button is buttoned all the way up to the top. This trend looks fabulous on a small busted and/or long necked lady. Be cautious of wearing the buttoned up trend if you have a large bust or short neck as it will make the bust look fuller and the neck shorter.”

3. Orange is the new ‘black’

“Orange a lovely fresh and vibrant colour. Be careful of wearing too much orange as the colour is a natural appetite stimulator (think of how many restaurants have orange décor). Combine with blue (as per the picture). Blue enhances orange, as they are complimentary colours.”

4. Jumpsuits

“Jumpsuits are back! Note how high-waisted they are. This is great if you have short legs and a long silhouette as it gives the illusion of your legs being longer than what they are. You can match shoe to hemline, e.g. dark pants dark shoes, light pants, light shoes to create height as well. Black and white have staying power this season. Combine this combo with a colour clutch bag.”

5. Fringing

“We are wearing fringing on tops and accessories, like bags and scarves, this season. I love this trend especially the chiffon cover up, as it can be worn casually with a white ribbed vest, shorts and sandals or dressed up with a sheer blouse and dark skinnys and heels for a night out on the town. It is also seen on formal wear items as well from dresses to formal jackets.”
