2015 Bikini trends

This year's bikini trends take a surprising turn.

Swimwear trends are usually a mix of fun, impractical and completely ridiculous, but this year the runways have taken a surprisingly practical, sun conscious turn.

For the women who are more at home surfing or playing volleyball on the beach than sun worshiping this is a huge plus, because the threat of skin cancer is a growing reality that can no longer be ignored.

While tiny bikinis – the ones that allow your dignity to escape with the onslaught of every wave – will always be in fashion, 2015 promises a few exciting alternatives.

Rashguard bikinis

Most exciting is the rising popularity of rashguard bikinis. Rashguards are a type of water wear suit, normally made of spandex, nylon, and polyester. They are most notably worn while surfing when the weather is too warm for a wet suit. This trend takes the surfing gear to a new level with matching bikini bottoms. You can use these trendy tops to keep your shoulders hidden from those dangerous rays.

Bralette tops

Bralette tops offering a sweet and simple look that is fashionable yet perfect for any activity out in the sun. Like a sports bra, bralette bikini tops typically feature more coverage around the bust with straps that provide added support.

Crop tops

Similar to wrap tops and bralette tops, the crop top bikini is a must for the girl-on-the-go. These sporty bra tops offer maximum support for larger busts, criss-cross straps for optimal control during high-intensity sports, and thicker fashion straps for a boho and chic “cami look” that is trending for 2015. Sporty tops are so versatile that they are good for beach volleyball, swimming, surfing, jogging, and even working out. Leave the fear of your swimsuit falling off behind or the annoying pain at your neck from a string-bikini knot!

Wrap bikinis

While this trend is not really offering any sun protection it does allow a sexier way to cover up just a little more of your skin without having to wear a one piece. Wrap bikinis cover up a little more of the rib drift, resulting in an elongated torso. This gives the illusion of a thinner, more-toned core, which is what every woman is looking for in a bikini. The halter-like style also offers more coverage and support for your bust.
