‘Durban Curry’ takes the, er, papadum!

Book scoops international recognition at Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.

If you live in Durban, you know the value of a good curry and you can ask anyone, us Durbanites know our curries best!

That is why it was no surprise when the 2015 Gourmand World Cookbook Award judges have chosen Durban Curry: So Much of Flavour by Simbithi residents Erica Platter and Clinton Friedman as their South African Book of the Year.

“It is outstanding, vibrant with passion and culture,” commented the Gourmand judges in their report.

Durban Curry is also the winner of the South African Heritage and Indian Cuisine categories.

It will go forward to compete in the “World Finals” in June.

“Durban’s signature dish has become a national culinary treasure, and we are delighted that those who make it so brilliantly, and their recipes, have been recognised,” said the authors.
