H of Bass leaves Gangs of Ballet

Bass player decides to follow chiropractic career in Ballito.

Ballito’s rock and roll chiropractor, Hardus de Beer played his last show as bassist for Durban rock band Gangs of Ballet on Saturday night.

De Beer played the bass guitar for the band since they formed in 2011.

“It was not an easy decision, but I know it was the right one,” said de Beer.

Gangs of Ballet organised a farewell tour for their bassist, fondly known as the H of Bass.

He performed his last bass notes with Gangs at Live The Venue in Durban where a packed crowd came to give him a fitting farewell.

“It was a very emotional show for everyone,” he said.

De Beer is leaving the band to pursue his chiropractic career in Ballito full time where he works at the Back 2 Life chiropractic centre.

“It has been quite a journey and I made the decision together with my wife Beatrice. We are both very excited about what the future holds,” he said.

De Beer said it will always feel like he left a part of himself behind, but that time will heal everything.

“It is a bag of mixed emotions right now.”

At Saturday night’s show, De Beer said he will miss the band very much, but will now join the crowd and sing at the top of his lungs when Gangs of Ballet performs.

“We are still brothers and we will always stay good friends.”
