Umhlali Preparatory’s school hall was transformed into a concert hall on Friday, August 14, for a very special choir festival, hosted by the Rotary Club of Ballito.
Ten choirs from nine schools delighted a capacity audience with their angelic voices, performing a wide variety of songs from religious, to traditional, to contemporary and popular music.
A classical quartet, Amici, consisting of cellist, Nina Watson, violinists, Tara Blake and Rozanne Jordan and flutist, Rozanne Paragon, got the evening going on a high note with their rendition of “Two Spanish dancers”.
Amici was followed by choirs from Trinity House, Liv Village school, Ashton International College, Sizani Primary Combined school and the Umhlali Preparatory girls’ choir.
Members of the audience then enjoyed a buffet of sweet and savoury treats during the interval before taking their seats for the second half of the festival, opened by Crawford Preparatory school.
They were followed by Darnall Primary school, Curro Mount Richmore, RA Padayachee and the Umhlali Preparatory boys’ choir.
The evening ended with an unforgettable mass choir performance with all ten choirs uniting to sing Michael Jackson’s “Heal the world” and the Margaret Singana classic, “Mama Thembu”.
