WATCH: Lighting up the Christmas fairy land at Durban Botanic Gardens

Look for the fairies and find the elves as you watch large sections of Africa’s oldest botanic gardens illuminate into a Christmas wonderland at Durban Botanic Gardens Trail of Lights from December 14.

The magical, festive family event will be open everyday, except Christmas Day, until December 30.

While all of last year’s favourites will be back, a few new adventures have been added such as Santa’s Grotto manned by the team from CROW, a few animals friends from the Natural Science Museum and an Enchanted Castle hidden away in the bromeliad garden.

The Tropical Jazz Band, arranged by Beat-Route will entertain with live music every night from 7.30pm to 8.30pm and TAFTA’s grandmas and grandpas will keep the children intrigued with stories from the Claus’, a donation-based kids activity sure to enthrall both young and old alike. TAFTA will also be hiring out wheelchairs for this wheelchair and pram-friendly event.

Cupcakes of Hope will give you a chance to think about your loved ones who are no longer with you at the Tree of Remembrance and help you make your own Christmas tree decor at the bauble factory.

You will also get the chance to fill up those Christmas stockings at the Elf Village Market and the food garden will keep you nourished.

All proceeds go to the Durban Botanic Gardens Trusts which supports various charities, so make sure to get your tickets early for a fairy tale experience which will add light to the lives of those less fortunate too.

Tickets cost R50 and, if booked online at Webtickets or at your local Pick ‘n Pay Store, children under two are free. Limited tickets will be available each night at the door at R70 per ticket.
