Sixty60 app arrives at Mount Richmore Checkers

The app, which is the only on-demand service that delivers both alcohol and groceries in the same basket is now extending countrywide.

The Checkers delivery app Sixty60 launched this morning at Checkers Mount Richmore to much celebration at the store.

The new Sixty60 staff paraded around the parking lot, showing off the new delivery bikes and their dance moves too, as a jovial tone was set throughout the launch.

The app, which is the only on-demand service that delivers both alcohol and groceries in the same basket was tested in the Western Cape and Gauteng in 2019 and is now extending countrywide.

The launch this morning means that the app now covers the majority of suburban areas from Salt Rock to Amanzimtoti, said Regional Operations Manager Shaun Chetty.

“It has been a huge success in Durban and that has allowed us to broaden the reach for Sixty60 in KwaZulu-Natal,” he said.

The app promises an order time of 60 seconds, and delivery within 60 minutes which has proven to be a good formula with social distancing measures this year.

“Covid-19 has seen a once-in-a-generation shift to online shopping in South Africa, and it’s a step change we believe is here to stay,” said chief of strategy and innovation for the Shoprite Group, Neil Schreuder.

Since it has launched, the app has created 1250 new jobs to meet the demand for the service and drivers have already driven the equivalent distance to the moon and back, 5 times.

Over the next two months, Sixty60 will be expanding to 25 new areas and will be available in the Free State and Eastern Cape for the first time.

With over 700 000 downloads, it is already South Africa’s number two shopping application and there are now more than 7 000 groceries to choose from.
