Watch: Hyena and python go to battle over baby impala

A helpless baby impala paid the ultimate price after a tug-of-war between a python and a hyena.

Mike Sutherland, founder of Escape Safari Co, witnessed the jaw-dropping scene during a private game drive at Mombo Camp in Botswana’s Okavango Delta.

On a beautiful morning, Sutherland’s group was admiring the bush filled with baby animals when an unattended young impala caught the eye of two predators lurking nearby.

According to an article published by Latest Sightings, a python, silently observing from above, slowly slithered down a tree and concealed itself among the leaves.

In the blink of an eye, the impala stepped over the snake, only to be coiled up in its powerful grip. Its cries of distress drew the attention of both Mike’s group and a waiting hyena.

Seeing an opportunity, the hyena moved in to steal the meal. After a series of failed attempts to pry the impala from the python, the hyena bit the snake repeatedly, hoping to force it to release its prey.

Eventually, the hyena managed to drag both the snake and impala away. The python, exhausted from the struggle, finally released its grip and slithered off, leaving the hyena to claim the impala as its prize.
