The very first Jozi Summer Shine launch
EMMARENTIA – Jozi Summer Shine Festival brought international and local musical acts together at Marks Park.
Joburg communities met up at the very first Jozi Summer Shine Festival which took place on 13 December at Marks Park in Emmarentia.
The exciting event brought the finest in whiskey and wine, street food vendors including three international and five local musical acts on two stages, to the beautiful Joburg summertime atmosphere and gorgeous green surrounds.
Jozi Summer Shine joined forces with Kaya FM’s Dance Ritual and brought the ultimate musical experience and summer party.
First on the list of performances was the exceptional international R&B legend Musiq Soulchild.
This multi-award winning performer has had two platinum and two gold albums and has received awards from top industry establishments such as Billboard and BET and has earned nominations from MTV, as well as 11 Grammy nominations.
Another international act to grace the stage was the household name to the dance music industry, Louie Vega.
With a career in house music spanning over 25 years, Vega was the perfect fit for the festival line up, bringing his Latin house influences to South African fans.
Kaya FM managing director Greg Maloka said, “The decision to merge with the Festival is to share Dance Ritual with a larger music audience.”
He said their recent award as Dance Nation of the World at the prestigious 2015 DJ Awards in Ibiza, was a clear indicator that Dance Ritual is more than an event but a cultural movement and Jozi Summer Shine provides a platform for it.
Tortured Soul, whose sound has been classified as electronica, jazz fusion, New York house and classic disco, also performed.
To add to the local flavour, Lira, Afro-Soul king Nathi, local favourite a capella group The Soil, Majozi and funky neo-soul rising star, Tresor, brought their best to the day.
Kevin Stuart of Breakout Management said, “To have three internationals and four local bands of such major stature perform on the same day brought great excitement.”
Jozi Summer was not only about music, but it also offered fans the opportunity to experience quality food while well-known wine estates displayed to taste and purchase.
