GALLERY and VIDEO: Woman of Substance pays tribute with a high tea

BLACKHEATH – Angelique du Toit talks to women on how to change their lives and take a stand.

Woman of Substance hosted a celebratory tea party in memory of one of their late members, Thea van der Nest.

Van der Nest suffered from aggressive cancer that unfortunately claimed her life after one month. The women gathered on 2 April to celebrate Van der Nest’s life. The high tea was hosted at Petits Four in Heathway Square Shopping centre in Blackheath with the a hat being a prerequisite. This was one of Van der Westhuizen’s favourite places to go to.

Guests were entertained by The Bachelor 2014 first runner-up and The Voice contestant, Johan Anker who serenaded the crowd with opera music. The guest speaker was businesswoman and writer Angelique du Toit who educated and empowered the women on how to take a stand and make changes in their lives. Du Toit also launched her second book titled What in the World Are You Waiting For?

Two paintings were auctioned to the guests. The proceeds went to the Woman of Substance Empowerment Academy, a programme that works to empower, educate and uplift women from different backgrounds.

“Tia was my right-hand woman and this was in honour of her life and her birthday on 3 April,” said Woman of Substance founding member Charlotte du Plessis.
