Francois van Halter exhibits latest offering

EMMARENTIA – Francois van Halter exhibited his work at his gallery where patrons came to see his latest artworks.

The Van Halter Gallery held an exhibition where artist Francois van Halter displayed his latest work to the public, to celebrate his latest birthday.

Speaking at the exhibit on 23 April, Van Halter described his art as versatile and considered it a cross between realistic impressions and complete abstraction.

Coming from a long line of painters, he admitted that art was in his blood and that at seven years old he was already sketching artistic impressions.

“I remember when I was nine years old my father’s oldest brother, my uncle Joseph van Halter began giving me lessons. He was an art copier and had immense talent in his hands, and lots of patience to copy great painters’ works,” Van Halter said.

Belgium born Van Halter came to Joburg in 1952 and began pursuing a life in the art world. He said that he drew his inspiration from beauty and other things that caught his eye.

“I take out my sketch pad as soon as I see something interesting and quickly scribble the lines so that I do not forget the image and use it to paint,” he added.

He pointed out that he only displayed art that he was completely happy with and ensured that it was art works he was proud to exhibit.

The exhibition is open to the public from 2pm until 5pm every day and celebrates the career of Van Halter that spans over eight decades.

He encouraged residents to visit the gallery if they were interested in art.
