A man was shot in Rustenburg Road near Road Number 3 in Linden on 13 August at 1.30pm.
According to the Linden Neighbourhood Watch (LNW) chairman Fareed Hoosen the victim seemed to have been followed by suspects in a five series BMW. “Four armed suspects climbed out of their vehicle at the traffic light and approached the victim’s car. The driver was shot in the lower leg through the passenger window. An undisclosed amount of money was taken from the car,” said Hoosen. Witnesses say one of the suspects was armed with a rifle.
The man was transported to hospital. Linden police, LNW, CAP security and emergency services were on scene. No arrests have been made as yet.
In a separate incident at around 1pm a woman drew money at an ATM in Northcliff and was allegedly robbed on Beyers Naudé Drive thereafter. Hoosen said, “I am not sure if the woman was walking or if she was in a vehicle when the suspects robbed her. Police are yet again urging people to be alert when you draw money from ATM’s. Don’t use the same route and watch if you are being followed.”
Several other crimes were also reported in Linden on 13 August including theft out of motor vehicle at the Linden Square, corner 8th Street and 4th Avenue, as well as an attempted housebreaking in 3rd Street. The domestic worker at the house said the suspects fled in a silver Hyundai Elantra or Sonata.
Hoosen said, “Shortly after the housebreaking attempt the Linden police tried to stop a silver vehicle and when the vehicle did not stop the police gave chase. Unfortunately the suspects got away. The police suspect the silver vehicle with three or four men in it was involved in the attempted housebreaking and several other housebreakings in neighbouring areas.”
Two vehicles were also stolen in Blairgowrie. Hoosen urged all residents to be vigilant.
Spokesperson of the Linden Police Station Constable Ndivhuwo Mulamu said exact details of the incidents will be made available as soon as possible.
