Meditation for the mind, body and soul
Sahaja Yoga is a meditation style and new religious movement founded by Nirmala Srivastava, more widely known as Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi.

Sahaja Yoga is the state of self-realisation produced by kundalini awakening and is accompanied by the experience of thoughtless awareness or mental silence. Practitioners of the Sahaja Yoga meditation technique say that they feel a cool breeze on their hands and on top of their heads while meditating; other effects include a dilation of the pupils and deep physical and mental relaxation.
Sahaja Yoga is not only the name of the movement, but also the technique the movement teaches and the state of awareness achieved by the technique. The movement teaches that self-realisation through kundalini awakening is a transformation which results in a more moral, united, integrated and balanced personality.
It started in India and England and there are now Sahaja yoga centres in almost 100 countries worldwide. Srivastava charged no money, insisting that her lesson was a birthright which should be freely available to all.
Kerry Mulryan has been practicing Sahaja Yoga for a few years and says it has cured her ailments. “A big change took place in me and I feel rejuvenated,”said Mulryan.
She has since started teaching it and runs classes every Thursday night from 6.15pm to 7.15pm at the Next generation Fitness Centre on the corner of Main Road and 3rd Avenue in Melville. “Anybody can come, young and old. The classes are free so there is nothing stopping you from experiencing the power of mastering your own subtle energy system through Sahaja yoga,”she said.
