Investment savy club

The Northcliff Investor's Club (NIC) met on 20 August for its first meeting at the Benvenuto Conference Centre.

The forum was attended by community members, business people and stakeholders with an interest in how current local and international economic factors impact South Africa’s investment landscape.

Economist Wayne McCurrie, a senior portfolio manager at Momentum Wealth, gave a thorough presentation on the fundamentals of investment planning and risk management nationally and globally. He also encouraged investors to learn as much as they can about a potential investment so they are fully aware of the benefits and risks associated with the venture. “You’ve got to have faith in your investment idea,” said McCurrie from the podium.

The brainchild of financial planners Tommy Ferreira and Pierre De Bruyn of PSG Financial Services, the NIC was borne out of the company’s frequent requests for investment advice by business people in the greater Northcliff area. According to the advisers, the forum intends to create dialogue between business and community leaders and investors. “The NIC is all about clarifying the investment landscape and making it easier for investors when they want to make those important business decisions,” said Ferreria.

De Bruyn said, “NIC is good value added to the business operations for the community and we only want it to gain momentum and push forward through community effort.”

NIC meetings will be held on a four-to-six week basis and will cover topics relating to the current economic landscape and issues relating to investments on a more technical level such as investment vehicles, costs, trusts, fiduciary planning and other topics that might assist investors in creating sustainable, well-diversified portfolios for themselves and their families.
