Be proud of your suburb

Not being able to locate a house in an emergency could have dire consequences.

Ward 99 councillor Bruce Herbert is adamant that residents must take care of the area right outside their homes. Numbers should be visible at all times and rubbish should be cleaned up regularly to ensure a much safer environment for everybody.

“Your street number must be displayed clearly outside your home. If an ambulance or the police are trying to find your house, you don’t want to make it difficult for them or waste any time. This should be a priority for all residents as it is about your well-being.” Herbert also urged residents to clean up the outside of their homes by keeping pavements tidy and accessible. Just as home owners hire gardeners to beautify their gardens, they must ensure the same is done outside their homes in the interest of the entire community. Ward committee member Ellen Levy encouraged residents to be proud of their suburbs.

Herbert added, “Don’t leave it for council because they don’t have the money to do it and it won’t take you long or cost you much anyway. All you need is two minutes to pick up the garbage that blows about and sweep the gutter every now and then. Help us to help you, keep the outside of your home clean and safe for everyone, especially you.”
