Whose ‘ville’ is it anyway?
MELVILLE – The trendy suburb has misspellings all around.
It seems as if the City of Johannesburg’s sign makers aren’t sure which ‘Mel’ to ascribe the ‘Ville’ to. The sign pictured, found between Judith Road and Eleventh Avenue (on Beyers Naude Drive) is afforded an extra letter.
As one of the main roads to the trendy suburb that attracts large numbers of tourists every year, misspelled signs can easily confuse those passing through.
Nearby, Beyers Naudé Drive is not spared the embarrassment at the corner of Judith Road. The curb painting indicates “Bereyers Naudé Drive” with two extra letters, and no explanation.
