Let’s rock for Cansa

JOBURG- Linden’s Guy Saben is hosting the CANSA ‘Rock for a Reason’ annual gala dinner featuring Cindy Alter as part of the 2014 Bachelor and Bachelorette competition.

The first annual Rock for a Reason fundraising dinner is on the cards for the evening of Monday, 29 September.

Rock for a Reason is hosted by Guy Saben, who is a finalist of Bachelor and Bachelorette of the Year, a Copperstone Promotions initiative. Each finalist has been tasked with executing a sustainable charity drive.

“I am very excited to do this as part of the competition but most of all do it to ensure that there are more funds raised toward fighting cancer,” said Saben.

Proceeds from the dinner to be held at Hard Rock Cafe in Sandton, will be donated to Cansa. The gala dinner includes a three-course meal and wine on the table and costs R350 a head.

The highlight of the evening is a talk and performance by special guest Cindy Alter. Not only did Alter do South Africa proud as a member of Clout (female rock band), who had a global number-one hit with Substitute and sold 12 million albums worldwide, but she beat cancer and has been clear of leukaemia for 11 years.

“This event and this competition are very important because people don’t always talk about cancer until they have been affected by it, so this event will not only raise money but also bring awareness about the disease,” he said.

Alter continues to actively perform on the live gig scene and recently released her new single Thrive. Her autobiography, aptly entitled No Substitute, is scheduled for release in November.

“It will be really fun with performances, talks, goodie bags, and very breastfeeding cancer-orientated to coincide with Hardrock Cafe’s Pinktober, which is where the café sells pink shirts with the original logo and donate the proceeds to Cansa,” said Saben.

“Residents should attend this event to donate to Cansa,” he concluded.
