Up close and personal with Lalla Hirayama

AUCKLAND PARK- Lalla Hirayama: “Sofia Vergara is my celebrity crush; she is 10 out of 10; she is beautiful, sexy, her boobs are great and she is incredible”.

Japanese-born South African dancer, actress, model and television presenter, Lalla Hirayama recently graced the University of Johannesburg Kingsway campus with her presence.

As students screamed her name, passing comments about how gorgeous she is, Hirayama smiled and took photos with her star-struck fans.

“It is not easy to keep up with the fans sometimes but I love them and they always put a smile on my face even on a bad day,” said the 26- year-old Vuzu presenter.

Believe it or not, this scandal-free star used to be a “turn-up”.

“I used to be such a turn-up, I would go out Monday to Monday, but all that changed when I met Chris,” she says, slightly closing her almond-shaped eyes.

Hirayama has been dating Chris Nkosi for four years and is happy to say she would love to marry him.

“Wedding bells will come in due time. We live together but there is no rush because there is still a lot I would like to do before marrying,” she says.

Unlike most girls, Hirayama has no clue what a best proposal will look like nor how she wants her wedding to be.

“I never think much about these things but the best proposal is the one that comes as a surprise; I want a massive ring and I also know that I will definitely wear a David Tlale dress for my wedding,” she says with a giggle.

Hirayama’s relationship with Nkosi may sound like all bliss but like any other couple, these two have had their fair share of roller-coaster rides.

“We have had problems before but the reason we have lasted is because we communicate. You have to be able to listen and discuss things. That is a skill and it takes a long time to develop, but if you respect one another, you always come out stronger,” says Hirayama.

Hirayama, who started out in the entertainment industry at 15, says she never planned on having a career in television as she wanted to be a dancer and doctor. One of her most-watched television projects currently is South Africa’s Got Talent (SAGT) where she is one of the judges.

“SAGT is amazing; it is a new challenge in my career. Got talent is the biggest show in the world and to be on that platform is amazing.

Chatting with Mam Shado Twala is my most favourite behind-the-scenes moments and it is an honour to work with these talented judges,” she says.
