That’s a rap
AUCKLAND PARK – Meet the young talented artist that is set to take the South African music industry by storm.
Many hip-hop fans might be familiar with the song All eyes on me, but little would they know a song with the same title was released in 2013.
Koketso Motseothata, fondly known as KapFresh released a track with a similar title called Eyes on me.
“Eyes on me is the single I was running with until AKA came out with a song with a similar tune, then I knew it was time to make another song,” he said.
KapFresh then released another single called Won’t stop.
“This song has a blend of gospel, house, hip-hop and motswako, and it’s something I don’t think everyone can do. The song is doing really well.”
The polite and gentle artist is working on a mixtape called KK, myself and Kapfresh which is self-produced and will include 17 songs.
The 23-year-old describes himself as a rapper, singer, writer, performer and producer who predominantly does hip-hop, RnB and poetry.
However, he firstly describes himself as God-fearing. “I think one of the first things that people will notice is that I am different from a lot of hip-hop artists. Hip-hop is associated with bad language and bad behaviour, but I involve Christ in everything I do and in music.”
So what kind of music does this University of Johannesburg BSC Computer Science final-year student do?
“I am trying to be an artist that everyone can relate to. I talk about things I know about.”
The muso started off as a producer in 2011.
“In 2012, I started doubling into the rapping and singing side, and ever since then I have enjoyed it. My grandmother is a singer and my great grandfather also sang. That’s where I probably get the talent from.”
He believes in education before venturing into anything else.
“It is important to have an education because you never know who will look up to you or how your other ventures will go.”
According to Kapfresh, all things are possible with hardwork, passion and dedication.
“I believe that God can make anything happen. I know if it wasn’t for God, my song will not be doing as good as it is.”
