MULTIMEDIA: Women in business empowered

MILPARK – Focused on an essential theme, the seminar was aimed at bringing together high potential women from a range of industries who are seeking new levels of growth and success as young business and corporate leaders.

The Women’s Empowerment Network of South Africa (WENOSA) recently hosted its inaugural business seminar titled Women in Business: Change, Challenge and Opportunity in Milpark.

Branding specialist Bathabile Magheti spoke about women finding their purpose in order to be successful.

“Be authentic in who you are. Reflect in yourself and your life and ask yourself what your purpose is in life, why you breathe and wake up every day. When you discover what your purpose is, you will be able to live a truthful life and be successful in the area of business you embark on,” she said.

Speaking on leadership, Magheti added, “Put your voice in the room because if you don’t you are not present.”

Keynote speaker and business woman Ipeleng Mkhari said, “Failure is not bad because there is always a lesson taken out of it. If you have goals, you should try as many times to get them right. You may have 100 nos and one yes”.

According to Mkhari, entrepreneurship is a massively sacrificial, challenging and difficult journey but it is not impossible.

“One of my biggest challenges is not being able to let go and maintain logic – especially, when it comes to letting go of staff,” she said.

Chief marketing officer at SuperSport, Nomsa Chabeli shared some advice to guests who were seeking employment.

“When you are looking for an internship, make sure you negotiate for a stipend. Have an honest discussion with the company if you have bills to pay. If they believe in you they will hire you,” said Chabeli.

She advised women to be “at the top of their game” whenever they are looking for senior positions in the workplace.

“Make sure you are respected. Talk in meetings and share your point of view. Do research and be knowledgeable about the industry you’re in. The way you dress should also show you are dressing for a senior position.”

According to investment guru at Exchange Traded Funds South Africa (ETFSA) Nerina Visser, most people worry their money will run out before they do and stated,“97 per cent of people will never achieve financial freedom which is making a living without working and women should start investing so they can live the quality of life they want to,” she said.
